Going to the Doctors

Tuesday was checkup time for Dalton and Ian. It's nice to combine visits so we don't have as many trips to Raleigh. But it does make it hectic trying to comfort two children at the same time. Luckily we have Emilee who went for the ride with us. The 3 yr checkup is always fun because they have now moved to the big scale, the measuring stick and the blood pressure cuff. They are officially not a baby at the pediatricians. They also get to do fun things like pee in a cup and look at pictures for the vision screening. Dalton did very well with all of the testing. Big brother Colin was there to show how it was done. Colin is very brave when its not his turn.

They both checked out fine. All of the normal concerns were addressed. They both are at the 5% mark on their weight chart. Which is very consistent and normal for the Henry boys who combined only weigh 77 lbs. All 3 of them sitting together don't weigh enough to get out of a car seat. They will be in them until they are 8 so we will have car seats in our vehicles for a long time.

Ian had one shot and only cried for the initial pinch. All in all everything checked out fine. Luckily we don't get there that often anymore with me at home now.

And so it begins........

Colin has officially been accepted into the Pre-K program at Moncure Elementary. We are so excited and proud of him. It's hard to believe that 4 years have gone by so fast. He is not so sure he wants to go to school. He likes staying home with Mommy but he is really excited to get a spider man lunch box. I asked him if he wants to ride the school bus but he says no which is fine with me because I think he needs to wait until he is at least 12. Terrance thinks he needs to go on it the very first day of school. That's what he did when he was that age. Not a chance, not this child and not this mama. I will take him the first day, walk him to his room and cry the whole way back to the house. I will then get it together to pick him up at the end of his day. Luckily I have Dalton and Ian to keep me busy and boy do they keep me busy.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamics in the house change. Colin and Dalton play so well together while Ian watches and plays alongside them. Now it will just be Dalton as big brother to teach Ian all of his knowledge. World look out when this team gets together.

For now we will wait to see how the future plays out. Our lives will now be dictated by the school calendar just like all the other parents I know. A new adventure for the Henry house. Alarm clocks will have to be turned back on for a son who is just like his mommy and does not rise in the morning with ease.

A week of fun in the sun

We are home recovering from our week long visit to New Jersey. We enjoyed lots of time at the beach and laying by the pool. The trip started with a night drive trying to take advantage of the fact the kids might sleep. For the most part they did, but once we got to Grandma and Pop Pop's at 3:30, they decided it was time to stay up. They did for sometime but Mom & Dad got them to sleep
while Terrance and I caught a few ZZZ's.

Once we got settled in and after some coffee, Colin got to show off his bike skills on the sidewalk. Or the concrete as he calls it since we don't have anything fancy like that here at our house. We spent some time at the playground and then had a big dinner with the uncles and aunts. It was one of many that week. The next big dinner was of course my favorite because it involved seafood, mainly clams. Nothing beats hanging out at my parents with some cold beers and some steamed clams. We enjoyed both. Thank you mom & dad for the endless gift card to Super Liquor.

The beach was not as I remembered. I brought a book and music and got to enjoy neither. It's up and down, back and forth, in the water, out of the water. Where's Dalton, where's Ian; there goes Colin. I got to pee, I'm hungry, he took my shovel. Not a whole lot of peace at the beach with 3 children. But lots of fun watching them go in the water and then realizing that the water comes and it goes with the waves. Chasing sea gulls, digging in the sand and soaking up the sun. We even managed to get Uncle Walt, Uncle Chris and Aunt Amy to the beach where they do not frequent. The boys played with their cousins Andrew and Molly reminding us of the days when we played on the beach with our cousins.

All in all it was a great vacation, Terrance relaxed and evened out his tan, Colin got to ride his bike on actual sidewalks, Dalton helped Uncle Tim pick up chicks at the beach and Ian went into the ocean for the first time and loved it. I even managed to finish the book I started in the beginning of the week on the car ride home. As soon as I unpack all of the suitcases, we can start to think about doing it again next year.

Grandma & Pop Pop

We were lucky enough to have Mom & Dad to visit this weekend. The boys as always love having their grandparents around. After a minor delay on the arrival, Ian and I picked them up at the airport. He managed to sleep almost the whole time. He opened his eyes for a little bit to see who was holding him. We spent a good part of the next day at the lake. The boys are getting braver each time we go. Even Ian hung out in his float until he couldn't take it anymore and fell asleep. The next day Mom and I went shopping and Dad and Terrance kept the boys.

On a side note, Terrance was able to finish the bedroom so we are no longer sleeping in the living room. Yeah!!!!!! The room is beautiful and the furniture is perfect.
